Village football & basketball calendar

Guizhou's "village super league" (村超, village football) and "village BA" (村BA, village basketball) are not the polished professional leagues — they're weekly matches played by farmers and shopkeepers in county stadiums, with crowds of 10,000+ locals. The experience is unlike anything in commercial sport.

How to read the result

Football (cun-chao)

Started in Rongjiang 2023, now a county-wide league running Jun–Oct weekly. Villages compete. Finals draw 50,000+ spectators. Stadium is open; no tickets.

Basketball (cun-BA)

Originated in Taipan village, now a regional phenomenon. Year-round but the most intense season is Apr–Sep. Smaller venues, closer to fans.

The "village atmosphere"

Half-time = local food stalls. After-match = rice-wine karaoke. The whole event is a village festival. Photography is welcome.

Common questions

Is there a ticket?
No. The matches are free, open to anyone. The stadium fills up but you can usually squeeze in late. Bring a bottle of water — the stadium vendors run out by halftime in finals.
Can foreigners play?
Sometimes — exhibition matches at half-time or special events. Some villages invite foreign teams for cultural exchange. Ask at the stadium office if you're in town for a few days.
How do I avoid the tourist-bus crowd?
Go on a Wednesday or Thursday group-stage match, not Saturday. Avoid Rongjiang's home finals — too packed. Taijiang village games are quieter and friendlier.
