Guiyang as transit hub optimizer

Guiyang is most travellers' first and last stop in Guizhou. The trap: treating it as just an airport. The opportunity: using it as a real hub with the right hotel, the right station, and the right sequencing so your trip doesn't dissolve into taxi time.

Where to stay

Near Guiyang North station = best for onward rail (most lines start here). Near the old town = better restaurants and walkability. Near the airport = useless unless your flight is early.

Rail vs road

For Huangguoshu and Kaili, road is faster (1.5–2 hours). For Fanjing and Zunyi, high-speed rail is faster. For Libo and Xingyi, both options exist; rail is more comfortable.

The "one full day" trap

Trying to combine "Huangguoshu + Guiyang old town" in one day means 4 hours in a vehicle. Either give Huangguoshu a full day or do the city in the morning and skip the falls.

Common questions

Is Guiyang itself worth a day?
Yes — one full day. The old town, Qingyan ancient town nearby, Jiaxiu Tower, the night market. Don't try to do it + Huangguoshu on the same day.
How do I get from airport to hotel?
Airport express line to city centre (~30 min), Didi (~¥60–80 to North station area), or pre-arranged hotel pickup (most 4-star hotels offer free pickup if you ask).
Should I stay the last night in Guiyang or at my departure station?
Always Guiyang the night before your flight. The airport is 30+ min from anywhere, even with no traffic. Save the stress.
