World-record Guizhou bridge route

Guizhou has more high bridges than anywhere else on earth — and several of them hold (or held) world records. Driving across them is fine, but the photographic payoff is from below, looking up. Three routes, three very different logistics.

Bridge height

The Beipanjiang Bridge (杭瑞高速 / 北盘江第一桥) holds the record for the highest bridge deck above a river (565 m as of 2024). "Above ground" is different — the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge in Turkey holds that, but Beipanjiang looks higher because it's above a gorge.

Main span

The longest main span in Guizhou is Beipanjiang at 720 m (2023 figure). Qingshuihe (in Guiyang) is shorter but visible from the city — it's the one you can photograph from a high-rise.

Photo platform

Beipanjiang has a viewing platform below the deck — but only the western side is officially open. Balinghe has a bungee jump that doubles as the best photo angle. Qingshuihe has a riverside path with a clear view of the pylon.

Common questions

Can I walk across Beipanjiang?
No — pedestrians are not allowed on the highway deck. The viewing platform below is open in good weather, usually 09:00–16:00.
Is there a bungee jump?
Yes — Balinghe Bridge has the highest commercial bungee in China (~370 m). It reopens seasonally. The Malinghe Canyon nearby also offers bungee options in season.
How do I combine with Xingyi or Liupanshui?
Beipanjiang is on the way from Liupanshui to Xingyi. Balinghe is 1h from Xingyi. Qingshuihe is 30 min north of Guiyang. A 3-day loop is: Guiyang → Qingshuihe → Liupanshui → Beipanjiang → Xingyi (Malinghe) → Guiyang.
